Dr. Jasmine (Huanjing) Chen has been taking care of eyes in the San Francisco Bay Area since 2014. She received her Doctorate in Optometry from UC Berkeley and completed a post-doctoral residency in cornea and contact lenses at the University of Alabama in Birmingham. In 2017, she was awarded fellowship in the American Academy of Optometry. Her expertise includes eyesight degradation management using orthokeratology contact lenses, atropine eye drops, or multifocal soft contact lenses to slow nearsightedness progression. Recently, using the latest algorithm and technology-based ortho-k lenses, she is able to help many see both distance and near, without the need for reading glasses. In conjunction to myopia management, she offers vision therapy training programs to help strengthen the eye muscles and reduce eyestrain.
She specializes in managing patients with irregular corneas such as keratoconus, pellucid marginal degeneration, corneal transplant, corneal scarring, severe dry eye, post-RK (radial keratotomy), post-LASIK complications. Over the course of her career, she has fit over 1000 eyes in specialty scleral, hybrid, multifocal rigid gas permeable (RGP) as well as custom soft lenses. Her passion is helping those patients with “hard-to-fit” eyes. Dr. Chen completed clinical externships at Callahan Eye Hospital and VA hospitals in San Francisco, Reno, Miami, where she trained alongside cornea, oculoplastic, retina specialists, and practiced full scope optometry in the management of common eye diseases such as dry eyes, glaucoma, macular degeneration, and diabetic retinopathy. Prior to optometry, she earned her B.S. with honors in molecular and cell biology from Stanford University.
Dr. Chen is also a strong proponent of preventative healthcare to catch early onset of diseases, and works closely with other healthcare professionals in providing the best care for all patients. She is a current fellow of the American Academy of Optometry, a member of the California Optometric Association, American Optometric Association, and the San Francisco County Optometric Association. She serves on the board of the San Francisco Optometric Society and the Stanford Social Networking Club as their Special Events Director. Dr. Chen is an active volunteer, supporting initiatives such as VOSH and Bay Area vision screenings. During her free time, she enjoys cardio-kickboxing, trying different cuisines, exploring the world, and spending time with her family, husband, daughter Teegan, and Poochon dog Mondu.
